Four Rooms - Directed by Quentin Tarantino, Allison Anders, Alexandre Rockwell, and Robert Rodriguez. Madonna plays one among a coven of withces involved in a seance. The film consists of four seperate vignettes (hence the title, Four Rooms), with players such as Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ione Skye, Jennifer Beales, Antonio Bandares, and Marisa Tomei to name a few.
"DO NOT DISTURB Four Rooms sadly could well be the movie to bring on the brickbats. It is an ambitious, collobrative 4 handler which draws upon sources as diverse as Edmund Goulding's Grand Hotel, Jerry Lewis's The Bellboy, Herbert Ross's California Suite and most directly, New York Stories. It is also a shockingly bad film.
What Anders thought this sequence was about is simply anyone's guess, but the ensuing frolics are on a par with the old "Where's the soap?" joke, albeit marginally less funny. How bad is it? It's Madonna's worst screen role, that's how bad
The fact that The Man From Hollywood(the least dreadful of the four segments) is no more clichéd riff on a Hitchcock short(with acknowledgments to Roald Dahl) is not a problem. What IS a problem is that Tarantino has begun to plagiarise himself. Here is the "tasty beverage" line from Pulp, there's the "What the fuck I was talking about?" opener to the "Like A Virgin" conversation in Dogs. It's a hits on 45 compilation of all your favourite Quentin quips."
